Our Team
Dr. Ken Kaufman is a 1993 graduate of Life University School of Chiropractic and has been in private practice in Sarasota since 1994. He is the founder of Sarasota Sports Medicine. Dr. Kaufman is the spring training Team Chiropractor for both the Baltimore Orioles and the Pittsburg Pirates. In addition to his active practice, Dr. Kaufman also is a member of the Professional Baseball Chiropractic Society and the Florida Chiropractic Association. He has also served as a board member of the Sarasota Area Sports Alliance and a former advisory board member for Keiser University Sports Medicine and Fitness Technology Program. He is also an approved continuing education provider for the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) and the American Council on Exercise (ACE).
As an avid athlete growing up in Michigan, he competed in baseball and water skiing. Following High School graduation, he excelled in weight training, running, biking and swimming and competed in multiple marathons and triathlons up to 1/2 Ironman distance. Side-lined himself with assorted injuries over the years, the worst being multiple herniated disks and spinal stress fractures, Dr. Kaufman has a unique perspective when working with his athletes and what you want - To Get Back To Your Sports!
As a result of his extensive experience running a successful private practice and working inside the training room of a top professional sports team, he has gained tremendous knowledge that can never be learned in a class room. Seeing the services and level of care professional athletes receive has given him a unique perspective to create a practice environment that includes the same services and programs the top pro's enjoy. Kathryn Collins, APRN, PhD
Advanced Nurse Practitioner
Dr. Kathryn Collins, APRN, PhD, is a board certified Advanced Practice Registered Nurse with a PhD in Research. She has been practicing since 1988, mostly in disciplines involving Bariatrics, Gastroenterology, Rheumatology, Neurology, and Pain Management. She is passionate about and is committed to physical and mental health, nutritional wellness, and a positive outlook through knowledge and the sharing of teaching and education
Kathryn’s father was a United States Naval Admiral, which has instilled an interest in the needs of veterans. Because of her father’s career, she grew up, was educated, and worked in a variety of countries, such as England, Scotland, Wales, Germany, Ireland, France, Spain, The Philippine Islands, Saudi Arabia, and Israel.
She enjoys a variety of hobbies and stays active by paddle boarding, doing yoga, tai chi, salsa dancing, beach walking, bike riding, and traveling. Despite all fo the moves, she is happy to call Sarasota home.
Dr. Sebastian Torres is a 2020 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic in Florida. With a specialization in soft tissue work, he utilizes treatments like the Graston technique, cupping, diversified adjustments, and pin and stretch techniques. He is also currently pursuing an acupuncture certification.
Dr. Torres has 1.5 years of practice experience and spent 2 years as an assistant chiropractor focusing on regenerative medicine and rehabilitation. He has worked with CrossFit athletes, runners, swimmers, and notable clients such as Hall of Famer baseball player Ivan Rodriguez. His primary goal is to empower individuals to achieve optimal health and wellness through personalized, comprehensive chiropractic care, addressing the root causes of discomfort for lasting improvements in quality of life.
As an active member of the Florida Chiropractic Association (FCA) and the American Chiropractic Association (ACA), he stays updated with the latest advancements in his field.
Growing up in Ponce, Puerto Rico, Dr. Torres played soccer and basketball, which fueled his passion for sports and natural sciences. After experiencing ankle injuries during his basketball career, he initially aimed to become an orthopedic surgeon but discovered chiropractic care as a holistic and versatile approach to rehabilitation and wellness. His personal experiences with surgery and rehabilitation strengthened his belief in the transformative power of chiropractic treatments.
Dr. Torres approaches chiropractic care with empathy and understanding, helping patients regain mobility and live pain-free lives. Outside of work, he enjoys learning new skillsets, playing basketball, paddle boarding, mountain biking, and rollerblading.
